The
goal of the Crop Service Program is to assist producers in making the
most efficient use of their crop production resources through innovative
and progressive crop management technology.
A professional crop production specialist provides consultation and
keeps detail records of contracted fields.
This service is an integrated program which includes:
- soil fertility planning
- irrigation scheduling
- crop budgeting
|
- pest management
- equipment calibration
|
How
does the program operate?
Services are provided by full-time crop specialists
who, in addition to their college degree, receive continuous training
and upgrading in all technical aspects of crop production. When a producer
decides to participate in the Westland Seed's Crop Service Program,
he contracts with the local crop specialist.
The specialists map all fields involved. They collect crop history and
begin soil sampling when conditions allow. When the samples have been
analyzed, the specialists write individualized recommendations for contracted
fields.
Each field is monitored for plant, weed, insect, and disease populations
and checked for pest control. This information is used to provide management
recommendations to enhance crop production.
A written report is provided to the producer following each field inspection.
What are the advantages of the program?
Westlands crop specialists deal with many crop
production factors. They are able to apply a broad knowledge of crop
management to specific production programs.
- Intensive
soil sampling and fertility monitoring often save producers two to
three times the cost of the service.
- Crops
are inspected regularly, so that insects, diseases, and weed control
can be recommended at the optimal time.
- The
Crop Service Program allows producers to concentrate their time and
effort on managing the other aspects of their farming operation.
What
is the value of the service?
Fees depend on the particular crop and the services
provided, which vary from soil sampling only, to the full service
program. Our clients have indicated that they receive from $3.00 to
$10.00 return for every dollar they invest for the service.
